GENERAL CONSTRUCTION SKILLS

This class provides an introduction, through skills training, to many tasks traditionally performed on construction projects by Construction Craft Laborers. Topics presented in the class include: basic construction math and measuring techniques, the identification and use of hand tools, safe work practices and hands on training using gas, electric, hydraulic, pneumatic and powder actuated power tools, construction materials and fasteners identification, hearing loss prevention and soil compaction techniques, heat stress prevention, lifting techniques for back injury prevention and an introduction to oxy-acetylene torch cutting. Respirable crystalline silica dust is also discussed, and hazard prevention techniques are used.
